We danced the night away
Pirouetting on the edge of consciousness
We put down every inhibition
We kicked away
Our every thought, every word,
Each concern –
We were too intoxicated by our bodies
Breathless, we fled
Every doubtful voice
They faded into the dusk
As we ran away
Panting, in sweats:
Blissfully relieved
From every note of contempt
We fell in to darkness
We drank the night away
Our lips and limbs
As loose as dangling keys
Each one held a secret entry
Capricious as a bird
We flew round and round
So free and self assured
We even did a cartwheel on a tightrope!

Know, Wonder

Know, Wonder considers the ethics of CRISPR/designer babies. The song is inspired by a quote from the author Mary Ruefle, who states that, in contrast to contemporary cultural forces, she would rather “wonder than know.” The song is told from the perspective of two parents-to-be, who would rather “know than wonder,” as they pick out their ideal child from a list of thousands.

Chase Elodia Brooklyn, New York
Chase Elodia is a composer and drummer based in Brooklyn, New York. His music takes cues from media theorists, singer-
songwriters, jazz composers, and poets to ask questions about how we relate to both ourselves and one another in our increasingly digitized, secularized cultural moment. His new album, Portrait Imperfect, will be released on Biophilia Records in May 2022.
