Guided by a solemn, off-kilter ostinato in 5/4, “You (Water)” speaks about the experience of becoming so enamored with another person that you lose a sense of understanding of who you are as an individual. Walentiny’s chords and Allen’s bass provide a hazy undercurrent, on top of which Dickson considers how interpersonal relating can occasionally lead to a distorted image of one’s own self. Elodia dexterously flows between binary and tertiary demarcations of the beat, meant to evoke a sense of being unmoored at sea.
